On Friday the 24th of October Women2Win were delighted to host, with Conservative Women’s Organisation, an informal reception on the subject of “Women in Politics and Women in the Economy” with The Chancellor of the Exchequer, The Rt Hon George Osborne MP .
The Leader of the House of Lords, Baroness Stowell of Beeston, the Secretary of State for Education and Minister for Women & Equalities, Nicky Morgan MP, and Anna Soubry MP joined George in creating an impressive panel of speakers.
All guests, who ranged from those already selected as prospective parliamentary candidates for 2015 to those just starting out on their journey, were able to speak with all our speakers before and after their speeches over coffee and cakes. This proved and invaluable opportunity to network with energetic, like minded women and share experiences of the campaign trail and beyond. When George Osborne said he was “looking at the future of the Conservative Party” we could not have agreed more wholeheartedly.
The message was overwhelmingly positive from all speakers but certainly tempered with the understanding that there is still much more work to be done to improve the proportion of women in politics. Nicky Morgan’s words “we need Parliament to look like the country that we all aspire to represent” were echoed in conversations throughout the hall following the speeches.
We would like to thank our speakers and all those who joined us in making this such a successful
reception, and hope to see many of you at our future events over next few months.
