Non-Executive Director - Homes and Communities Agency Regulation Committee - closes Monday 11 January
The Homes and Communities Agency Regulation Committee has statutory responsibility for exercising HCA’s powers as the regulator of social housing in England.
Applications are sought from candidates with detailed knowledge and experience of the social housing sector and the potential impacts of economic and policy changes. Successful candidates should have detailed knowledge and experience of statutory regulation and the interplay between those regulated, the regulator, government and other stakeholders; senior level commercial experience with professional expertise in either audit, or risk and re-structuring; senior level commercial legal experience preferably including charity law and regulatory issues.
● Time: 2 days per month.
● Remuneration: £11,000 per annum.

Information Commissioner - Closes Monday 11 January
The ICO is an independent body set up to uphold information rights in the public interest in the UK. Part of the role of the ICO is to improve the information rights practices of organisations, by gathering and dealing with concerns raised by members of the public. Applications are being sought for a new Information Commissioner to take up post in the summer of 2016.
This is a demanding and high profile role as a key UK regulator. The successful candidate will be an outstanding individual with a strong professional track record who is able to take and defend difficult decisions, to win the confidence of a wide range of stakeholders from all sectors, and to act as the public face of the organisation at a domestic and international level. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate outstanding leadership skills, good commercial and legal acumen, alongside a strong track record of leading and implementing organisational change
● Time: Full-time.

Trustees - Natural History Museum - closes Monday 11 January
The Natural History Museum is home to life and earth science specimens comprising some 70 million items within 5 main collections: Botany, Entomology, Mineralogy, Palaeontology and Zoology. The museum is a world-renowned centre of research, specialising in taxonomy, identification and conservation. Given the age of the institution, many of the collections have great historical as well as scientific value, such as specimens collected by Darwin.
Applications are sought from candidates with a knowledge of and a commitment to the Natural History Museum, who support the purpose and values of the Museum. Successful candidates should have a proven ability to take responsibility and demonstrate sound judgement in strategic decision-making and so contribute to the Museum’s future policy and strategic development; a commitment to actively supporting the Museum’s fundraising campaigns; demonstrable achievement in the private, public or voluntary sector; experience in the management of financial risk within an organisation; and a clear understanding of the principles of corporate governance and the role of Museum Trustees.

Land Registry – Chair – closes Tuesday 12 January 2016
This is a rare opportunity to lead an exciting, evolving Board at a time of significant change for this unique and successful information business. The incoming Chair will lead a body preparing itself for strategic and operational change, following the Chancellor’s recent statement that the Government will consult on options to move operations of the Land Registry to the private sector from 2017.
The new Chair will need to bring a substantial track record of business leadership through a period of significant change and growth, and the ability to develop a Board. They will also bring complementary knowledge, experience and skills to the Land Registry Board. This is a unique opportunity to lead an important organisation into its next, exciting phase.
● Time: The role is a part-time non-executive position (average 2 days a week).
● Remuneration: up to £55,000 per annum.

Chair - Health and Safety Executive - closes Friday 15 January
The Health and Safety Executive is the national independent watchdog for work-related health, safety and illness. It acts in the public interest to reduce work-related death and serious injury across Great Britain’s workplaces.
Candidates for the Chair role should have the ability to lead the Board in it strategic decision making; have a flexible approach to achieving collective agreement; the ability to promote the Board at home and abroad, and to help increase its commercial income; and the ability to quickly understand the strategic issues facing the Board and to contribute constructively and persuasively to the debate.

Judicial Specialist Member - Senior Salaries Review Body - closes Wednesday 20 January
The Review Body on Senior Salaries provides independent advice to the Prime Minister, the Lord Chancellor, the Secretary of State for Defence, the Secretary of State for Health and the Home Secretary on the pay of senior civil servants, the judiciary, senior officers of the armed forces, certain senior managers in the NHS and Police and Crime Commissioners and chief police officers.
Applications are sought from candidates with a good understanding of the structure, hierarchy and work of the UK judiciary, and preferably a substantial knowledge of judicial functions and specialisms and the constitutional context in which the judiciary operates. Candidates should have an awareness of the key issues affecting public sector reward; the ability to absorb and analyse large amounts of complex material; who can provide independent advice and argue logically and convincingly; make and defend practical proposals; a good understanding of the use of performance management and reward for senior staff to drive individual and business performance. Experience of working with groups in the bodies remit is desirable.
● Time: 20 days per annum.
● Remuneration: £300 per day.

Commissioner (x6) - Marshall Aid Commemoration Commission - closes Friday 22 January
The Marshall Aid Commemoration Commission administers the British Marshall Scholarships, which finance young Americans of high ability to study for a graduate degree in the UK.
Applications are sought from candidates with a keen interest in, and experience of, UK-US relations and a commitment to improve and deepen that relationship. Successful candidates should have demonstrable personal impact at Board level of a significant organisation; strong networking and stakeholder engagement skills; and experience in fundraising, and knowledge of finance and governance issues. Experience or Knowledge of UK higher education is desirable.

Member (x2) - Environment Agency - closes Monday 25 January
The Environment Agency is a unique organisation with a challenging remit. It provides an essential service to the public through its operational role, which ranges from reducing the risks from flooding, to working to reduce the impacts of climate change, to regulating industry - holding poor performers to account.
Applications are sought for two member roles; one Natural Environment Member, and one Local Government Member. Applicants for the Natural Environment Member should bring an enthusiasm for and high-level expertise in working for the protection of the natural environment, applicants for the Local Government Member should have an understanding of how local government functions and the ability work effectively with local authorities at a senior level when faced with conflicting demands.
Candidates for both roles should have extensive experience of working to protect the natural environment, or people with a comprehensive understanding of and the ability to work with local government; an enthusiasm for and a genuine interest in the work delivered by the Environment Agency; strong analytical skills, and the capability to examine issues at a strategic level. Accountancy experience is desirable.
● Time: 4 to 5 days per annum.
● Remuneration: £21,000 per annum.

Chair - Healthwatch England Committee - closes Monday 25 January
Healthwatch England is the national consumer champion in health and care. It has significant statutory powers to ensure the voice of the consumer is strengthened and heard by those who commission, deliver and regulate health and care services.
Applications are sought from candidates with knowledge or experience of consumer / user involvement in the design, delivery and improvement of services. Successful candidates should have good public communication skills and be able to support a network of local organisations.
The successful candidate will chair the Healthwatch England Committee (a committee of the Care Quality Commission) and also become a Non-Executive Director of the Care Quality Commission. They will work closely with the Care Quality Commission Chair and Board Members to ensure that the Healthwatch England Committee’s functions are delivered effectively and that the views of patients, service users and the public inform wider Care Quality Commission activities.
● Time: 2 days per week.
● Remuneration: £30,000 per annum.

Non-Judicial Member - Sentencing Council for England and Wales - closes Thursday 4 February
The Sentencing Council for England and Wales promotes greater consistency in sentencing, whilst maintaining the independence of the judiciary. The Council produces guidelines on sentencing for the judiciary and criminal justice professionals and aims to increase public understanding of sentencing.
Applications are sought from candidates with experience or understanding of the criminal justice sector, specifically current experience of criminal defence practice, preferably in both the higher and lower courts. Successful candidates should have a good understanding of what sentencing is designed to achieve and the impact and cost effectiveness of sentences available; and the ability to serve in a personal capacity drawing on their own experience. Experience of or an interest in media / public relations work, audit and risk of financial management processes, and group decision making and collective responsibility is desirable.

Chair and Non-Executive Directors roles on local NHS Trusts

British Business Bank - Members

British Film Institute - Members

Competition and Markets Authority - Members
The CMA is an independent Non-Ministerial Department working to promote competition for the benefit of consumers, both within and outside the UK. The CMA’s aim is to make markets work well for consumers, business and the economy. The CMA also considers regulatory appeals and market investigation references, and it works closely with the sector regulators to promote competition in those markets, and to encourage the use of the regulators’ competition powers and has representatives in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The Legal Services Board is an Independent body responsible for overseeing the regulation of lawyers in England and Wales. Our goal is to reform and modernise the legal services market place by putting the interests of consumers at the heart of the system, reflecting the objectives of the statute that created us, the Legal Services Act 2007.
Low Pay Commission - Chair
The Low Pay Commission (LPC) is an independent statutory Non-Departmental Public Body sponsored by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, to advise the Government on the National Minimum Wage and National Living Wage through an annual report to the government making recommendations on the future level of the minimum wage and related matters.

Social Security Advisory Committee - Members
The Social Security Advisory Committee’s remit is to provide independent advice to the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions. It examines a wide range of issues and publishes its views on these topics in its annual stewardship reports. The Committee is also responsible for mandatory pre-legislative scrutiny of most Department for Work and Pensions proposals for secondary legislation relating to social security matters.
